Top 10 Skiing Areas for Self Catered Ski Holidays

Filed under: Life Of Travel, Recreation Tips — admin at 5:42 pm on Thursday, November 6, 2008

Whilst researching a snowboarding vacation the pick of French alpine field is somewhat worrying. Notably when attempting to find a French ski field good for self catered ski holidays. Fortunately for you I’ve compiled a top ten of the top French ski areas most suited for luxury self catered chalets:

Luz Ardiden, Bessans, Megeve, Alpe d’Huez, Gourette, Le Grand-Bornand, Tignes, Alpe d’Huez, Tignes, Meribel.

Ethan Perez hailing from USA is a Mellowing-Machine Operator, we quizzed him concerning his best loved French skiing destination. Unsurprisingly he chose Montroc a skiing resort well regarded for its range of self catering chalets.

Why do you prefer self catering skiing holidays instead of the option of a hotel?

That’s easy I enjoy the flexibility which luxury self catering chalets provide. The accommodation is invariably impressive and instead of the unexciting cuisine in motel I can cook an inspiring meal.

What if you’re not a good cook?

Well then you just head out to a friendly cafe.

That’s interesting do you have any favorite insider tips for us?

I love Bageland of CRL Springs managed by Eduard and it’s sausage quiche is one not to miss.

Therefore if you’re considering self catering skiing holidays then why not look at one of French alpine field on French ski our list.

RV Fire Safety Tips

Filed under: Recreation Tips — admin at 9:11 am on Thursday, November 6, 2008

Did you know that there are close to 20,000 reported RV fires each year? A large percentage of these fires are transmission related fires on motor homes. Automatic transmission fluid leaking from the transmission can ignite, and quickly spread if it contacts any portion of the exhaust system. Before traveling in your RV inspect the underside for any signs of fluid leaking. Have any potential leaks checked out and repaired immediately.

Over 25 percent of RV fires are caused by shorts in the 12-volt electrical system. Not only do you need a fire extinguisher, you need to inspect it before each trip to make sure it is charged. Look to see if the arrow is pointing in the green area in the sight gauge. If it reads empty or needs charging replace it or have it recharged immediately. If it’s a dry powder type fire extinguisher the arrow pointing in the green doesn’t always guarantee that it will work. Every month you should turn dry powder extinguishers upside down, tap on the bottom of the extinguisher and shake it. It should sound hollow, sort of like a drum. If not, continue tapping on it until it sounds hollow and the powder that settled on the bottom is released.

You need to have an emergency escape plan. The National Fire Protection agency requires that RV’s have emergency escape windows. Make sure everybody knows where the escape window is located and how to use it. It’s a good idea to practice using it so you are familiar with how to get out of the RV in case of an emergency. You should have an escape plan for the front of the RV and the rear of the RV.

Happy Camping!

Fortitudine Vincimus

Filed under: Recreation Tips — admin at 8:55 am on Sunday, November 2, 2008

By endurance we conquer”. This was the family motto of Sir Earnest Shackleton. In late 1914, the now famous explorer, Earnest Shackleton set out to conquer the last unclaimed price in the history of exploration. With a crew of 27, he set sail for the South Atlantic, destined to cross the Antarctica on foot.

As faith would have it, Shackleton never got to set foot on the Antarctic continent. Much through poor decision making and a run of bad luck, his expedition became a race against time and nature, in order to survive. Shackleton and his men was forced to endure the wrath of the Antarctic winter, while their ship drifted helplessly in the pack-ice of the Weddell Sea. Later, the ship would be crushed by the enormous force of the ice, forcing the crew to live on floes. As the arctic summer drew closer, the crew set out from the pack-ice in small, open boats, heading for the small islands located in the South Atlantic ocean. The whole ordeal would last 20 months, before their ultimate rescue.

Despite his poor preparation and now all to apparent mistakes, Shackleton was a great explorer. Or maybe calling him a great explorer is a misnomer, a great leader would be more appropriate. Was it not for his great leadership skills and his ability to select and create a crew that worked as a well-oiled machinery, the entire exploration party would have perished in the unforgiving arctic.

Another (in)famous British explorer, Robert Scott, lacked Shackleton’s leadership skills and did not possess the humble, realistic nature required of a polar explorer. As a result, Scott and his party of 5, all died on the ice. In the words of Shackleton himself; “…But what the ice gets, the ice keeps”.

I am continued to be amazed at what the human body and psyche can endure, in order to survive. Just when you think you have no more energy, no more mental stamina to continue - you still have not dipped into the pool of “survival energy”. We, as humans, have vast and mostly unexplored capabilities, both physically and mentally. The ability to tap into just a small part of this reservoir could bring great results. The ability to ignore and suppress the feeling of pain and the desire to stop is what often separates the winner from the loser.

If find reading about the hardship and the enormous stress that these explorers endured, is very fascinating. I would highly recommend reading “The Endurance - Shackleton’s Legendary Antarctic Expedition” by Caroline Alexander. The book has much good information and some fantastically unique pictures. To see some of these beautiful pictures, please visit http://www.coolantarctica.com. What better way to relax after a hard day of training (or working), than to relax with a good, interesting book. If you are anything like me, you will not be able to put the book down.

I am a full-time endurance athlete, working towards the 2012 London Olympics. I maintain a blog, describing my ups and downs of training / racing.

Bird Watching Journals - Preserve Your Bird Watching Experiences

Filed under: Recreation Tips — admin at 7:34 am on Friday, October 31, 2008

Bird Watching is a great way to escape the rat race and be one with nature. Alas, your bird watching experiences can fade with time. The best way to prevent this is to keep a bird watching journal for your sightings and trips.

Bird Watching Journals

Take a minute to give some consideration to your most recent bird watching experience. What sticks out in your mind? Now think about the first time you ever went bird watching. Undoubtedly, you remember few things about the geography, people you went with, every bird sighted and so on. The experiences you’ve forgotten are lost to time. If you had kept a bird watching journal, this wouldn’t be the case.

There are famous instances of people keeping journals throughout time. Of course, Anne Frank’s Diary is the best example. In her diary, Anne kept a running commentary of the two years her family spent hiding from the Nazis. While your bird watching experiences better be more lighthearted, keeping a journal will let you remember them as the years pass.

A good bird watching journal combines a number of characteristics. First, it should be compact so you don’t have to take up unnecessary space for other things. Second, it should have a case to protect it from rain, spills and so on. Third, the journal should contain blank areas to write your notes. Fourth, the journal should contain cue spaces to remind you to keep notes on specific things. Cues should include:

1. Who you went birding with,

2. Where you stayed and if you enjoyed it,

3. Who you met and contact information for them,

4. The geographic and weather conditions, and

5. The birds you sighted and added to your life list.

At the end of the trip, you should be able to get the following from your journal:

1. Contact information for other bird watchers and people you met,

2. Enough detail to provide you or a friend with a guide if you travel to the location a second time.

3. Memories to reflect upon years later, and

4. Something to pass on to your children and grandchildren.

To get the most out of your bird watching journal, you should write in it during and immediately after birding. Every sighting brings new experiences even if you’re just sitting in your backyard.

Bird watching is a great way to commune with nature. Make sure to preserve the experience.

Rick Chapo is with NomadJournals.com makers of diary and writing journals for bird watching. Visit NomadJournalTrips.com to read more articles on bird watching and the great outdoors.

Bargain 5000 dollar at a serious rate of 7 percent

Filed under: Fortune, Getting Credit, House Of Loans — admin at 9:01 pm on Thursday, October 30, 2008

You should be sassy today to inspect if you have a super bargain or if you don’t with the bank that offers you a credit loan. Check up to see if the moneylender who wants to give you a money loan is fine. A merchant bank in Holyoke Massachusetts or so may have a total completely different actual loan rate for a 15000 dollar deferred payment then a merchant bank in Melbourne Florida and that makes a immense clear gap in your yearly pay backs. Many of the merchant banks wil show you a rate of interest that is looking bonnie but doesn’t feel well or so after a period of time. That’s the reason why now you really need to suss out and examine if you can have a loan at a estimable percent interest rate. 10.9 percent loan rate may appear so sightly but will it stay perpetual after you’re going to refund your money loan. Now you can check interest rates quickly on the internet and consider if there are other sneaky conditions you should be aware of.

It doesn’t matter if you live in La Habra California or in Beloit Wisconsin a right online inspection will spare you often .

Take a Trip to Alaska: Halibut Fishing

Filed under: Recreation Tips — admin at 9:03 am on Thursday, October 30, 2008

Halibut fishing is the most popular sporting activity in Alaska. If you have plans of going on a halibut chase, you need to have an experienced angler by your side. That is mainly because Alaska halibut fishing can be an exasperating activity for the novice. If you haven’t tried it before, you should know that halibuts are extremely cunning creatures. To drag them onboard, you must have several things in mind.

First and foremost, you’d better not sail in deep sea without a guide. You need someone who knows these waters thoroughly. ProFish-n-Sea has specialized in educating Alaska fishing guides and charter captains who can take you whenever you like. The best person to take onboard is ProFish-n-Sea himself- namely, Steve Zernia. Mr Zernia is a second- generation Alaska Charter Fishing Captain. He is the one with the greatest halibut fishing experience, and he also knows by heart the best sea routes. If you are really eager to thrill to the real Alaska halibut fishing, you’d better find Steve. He is available both for experienced anglers and novices. His main aim will be to make you feel to the bones everything about halibut fishing. He will help you on your first halibut trip and will guide you with priceless advice.

The second thing you need to have in mind is that Alaska can offer you a tremendous abundance of different species of fish. They are all eager to peck at your bait. The only thing you need to know is how to catch them after they are hooked. To most fishermen from other places on Earth a successful fishing trip is measured by the number of bites, hookups or fish landed onboard. The thing that strikes most on an Alaska halibut fishing trip, is that measures are changed. Success is determined by pounds of halibut meat. Alaska halibut fishing is your way to feel the immense bounty of Alaska’s fishery. A six-passenger Alaska halibut fishing boat can catch as much fish as a commercial long-liner. With a pinch of luck and appropriate conditions, every hooked up halibut will eventually end up onboard. For more information click Alaska Halibut Fishing

Alaska halibut fishing requires the angler to have the strength and patience to pull the rod until the fish is out of the water. And that could be a difficult task for the inexperienced. The halibut having taken the bait doesn’t necessary ensure the catching of the fish. The tackle should be strong enough to endure the pressure. That is why you need a guide to show you how to do it properly and not turn the catch into a failure. Steve has a lifetime of experience in Alaska halibut fishing and can show you everything you need to know about it. When hooked, a sly Alaska halibut would dive straight down and a novice can easily be pulled to the rail or even worse: let go of the fishing rod. You must have the energy to keep the rod until the fish are exhausted and give it up. And that, as Steve Zernia would teach you, is the real chore. A guide will help you develop the basic fishing techniques necessary for a successful catch. Steve will give everything to teach you so that your first Alaska halibut fishing brings you satisfaction and doesn’t turn into a nightmare.
