How to Size Your Bets
Aggressive betting is the way to win in No-Limit online poker . To play aggressively, you should always enter a pot with a raise if you are first to bet instead of just calling. By raising pre-flop you will narrow the field of contenders and have a better chance of winning. If you can’t raise pre-flop, then throw the poker online hand away. How do you decide how much to raise? The key factor is your position. A online poker player who raises from early position pre-flop is advertising a good hand. A small raise, such as the three-bet, will likely cause marginal hands to fold. If your hand is quite strong, then the best case scenario is to get only one or two callers. However, from early position, it is always possible any of the players behind you could have a monster hand so keeping the bet size relatively small will eliminate most and give you information about your opponents for a small price. From late position, you can raise pre-flop with a broader range of hands. Basically you are announcing that your hand is better than the blinds behind you pre-flop and those that have limped in ahead of you. A raise from this position can be larger because it will cause most players to fold and any who do remain must act before you in ensuing rounds
