Lord Mandelson’s New Measures to Fight Piracy Find Few Takers

Filed under: Consumer Market, Information Technology, Telecommunication Infos — admin at 9:15 am on Wednesday, November 18, 2009

The police and the UK intelligence services are concerned over the Government’s plan to carry out disconnections for the internet pirates. They fear that it will make identifying offenders at work more difficult.

Business Secretary Lord Mandelson has announced his plans to introduce new measures in the next Digital Economy Bill, aimed at putting a hold on illegal file sharing of music and films by cutting off the broadband connection of suspected offenders.

An article in The Times, however, revealed that both the national security services (including MI5 and MI6) and the UK police are concerned about criminals adopting encryption to escape conviction. It will result in increased costs and work pressure for those responsible for monitoring internet traffic. An insider told the paper that the spooks are not in favour of broadband disconnection of offenders and think it will make monitoring a difficult task to perform.

BT and Carphone Warehouse are some of the internet service providers that have expressed their disapproval to Lord Mandelson’s suggestion. They estimate that the price of broadband for the average consumer will go up by 2 pounds a month, the effect being a probable overall rise in broadband packages, if a decision to approve technical measures to monitor and punish illegal downloaders is executed.

Public opinion is also not in favour of the proposal. In a recent YouGov poll, almost 70 percent of people voted in favour of a right granted to suspected offenders to have a trial in court before being cut off from their internet service.

Spyware IS Good

Filed under: Security Center — admin at 2:02 pm on Tuesday, November 10, 2009

How many times per week do you run your antivirus protection or anti-spyware or adware programs to ensure that your paranoia about having an infected machine is just that, paranoia? With so many problems in the computer infection world, one cannot really blame themselves for checking up on their system on a routine basis. However, do you ever really think about where all these programs come from because someone out there must be sending them out, they don’t just appear through spontaneous generation. This makes one ponder the question as to who is sending these things?

There are thousands of spyware, adware, and Trojan horse programs that are running rampant throughout cyber space as you read this article. But if you really think about it, just as war might be considered good for the economy, these computer infestation programs are good for the economy. If you are not sure what I mean, just think about Spybot, Spyware Nuker, Adaware, and countless other detection and removal programs. This is a new sector of the economy that has only sprung up as a result of those programs that can take control of your computer.

Just as with the medical industry making billions of dollars per year on not finding cures for AIDS and cancer, because financially these cures would allow them to make less profits each. It seems like information technology companies do not want to rid the world of all the infectious programs that can endanger your PC. The reason for this is that they find profit in the misfortunes of others. The continual emergence of new Trojan or adware makes it necessary for people to spend money for protection. If this sounds familiar that is because it is the same philosophy employed by organized crime. You pay them for protection but they are not going to do anything to ultimately cure each case but just get more money from you after something happens and tell you that it is not going to happen.

In short, Spyware is good for the economy because it allows for more money to be reinvested into the market through purchasing new and updated protection programs to keep you computer clean. It makes you put more money back into the economy and allow the software creators of these protection programs to prosper. Who knows, it could be these companies that created some of these programs that you need their software to cure. Just think about it, spyware IS good.

Now that you have read that, please read this. If you believe any of that, I have an oceanfront house in Oklahoma that I can sell you at a great price. Spyware, Trojan programs, and adware are nothing but a group of programs put on this planet to annoy us at all times. Most spyware and adware programs offer you free versions of their software that is sufficient enough to monitor your system on a regular basis. Although, there are those that offer a more detailed version at a higher price, most free versions are sufficient. Spyware is not good and these programs help keep it that way. Don’t believe the hype!

In modern times, online sports betting has altered betting forever. Modern technology makes it painless to place a wager on well-nigh any sporting event available from the comfort of your living room. At first, betting was only carried out by the upper classes. Horse racing and pre-arranged brawls provided the upper classes with the opportunity to gamble on who would defeat their opponents. Over time, individuals began betting on selection of outcomes from card games to plain bar fights. Before long baseball, tennis and boxing bets became more popular with the public. Before long, the general public could visit their nearest bookie and place bets on their preferred sports teams, events, and even on tournaments set up specifically for betting. It is not unusual for players to bet from time to time. Of course this was fantastic for anyone living in heavily populated areas but bettors in rural environments weren’t blessed with much access to these services, at any rate, not lawfully. Isle of Man Schools Hear About Hearing Loss

Filed under: Aid, Health Parlor — admin at 9:52 am on Tuesday, November 10, 2009

Taking care of your hearing is a very healthy habit to get into from an early age. Too many people with hearing problems leave it too long before they get a hearing test and seek help. On average they wait around 15 years too long, doing more damage to their ears in the meantime. So teaching young people about hearing loss and early action is vital. Schools on the Isle of Man recently had a visit from their local hearing specialist at Hidden Hearing and national charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. King Williams College, School Vallajeelt, Laxey and Ashley Hill Primary schools were visited by Hidden Hearing’s Guy Wolstencroft and June Bray with her hearing dog Pippa, a Golden Retriever. Guy Wolstencroft is a registered audiologist, and explained to the children the help available for people who have problems hearing. They also learnt about the workings of the ear - and what happens when this breaks down. “I told them about the dangers of listening to Ipods or other devices too loud”, explained Guy, “and the damaging effect this can have on your hearing. We also considered the long term effects of deafness and how taking care of your ears is so important when you are young.” June Bray spoke to the children about her own experience of being deaf and how Pippa can let her know when there’s someone at the door or the telephone rings. A hearing dog takes about four months to be trained at a cost of over £5,000, and the dogs are provided by UK charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Hidden Hearing is a corporate supporter. Hearing dogs change lives. They alert their deaf owners to sounds we take for granted, providing independence, confidence and security. Whenever possible, the dogs are selected from rescue centres, but they are also donated by breeders and members of the public.
