Ignore the Critics

Some online poker players think they know everything, and that they are the best player at any casino table. They can’t help criticizing other players’ style and action, pointing out every mistake made. These players, however good they might be, can be a real hassle to deal with when you’re in the action.

When online poker players become overly critical, even insulting, you can speak up and tell the offender you are not interested in any more advice. If the player continues to pick away at your play, ask the dealer to intervene on your behalf. Some wily players - and there are some noted poker stars among them - use criticism to put other players on tilt. You must learn to tune it out and deflect it. Do not engage in any interaction with the would-be assassin. Ignore the wisecracks and focus on playing your best game.

Of course, there are players who want to be helpful, especially to newcomers. They will discuss the reasoning behind a rule, or explain the options to a player who is confused. You might even learn something useful from these types. Perhaps you give off a tell you weren’t aware of, or tend to engage a predictable betting pattern.

Respect those who do want to be helpful and see what you can learn from them. Ignore the blowhards who think they know everything. More likely, they just want to put you on tilt and mess up your game.
