Resourceful Redecorating - Budget Friendly Home Decorating

Spring is here and for many of us it’s the perfect time to organize and decorate. As winter passes into spring, it’s out with the old look and in with the new look. This is a great time to bring some new ideas into your home and liven things up!

Spring is a great time to find bargains on decorating accessories at yard and garage sales. As the seasons change, many times your local thrift and consignment stores will have a change in inventory. This is the time when many folks finally donate unwanted merchandise that’s just been sitting around the garage or house. Spring cleaning!

My advise……..have your own yard or garage sale and make some extra money on those items. But, lucky for us frugal shoppers, there are some folks who just don’t want to take the time. So, be sure not to miss out on decorating supplies, furnishings, accessories, paint, wallpaper, and fabrics that can be found at many thrift stores.

Sometimes pulling items from one room to another and simply re-organizing, fixing up, or just using an item in a different way can be enough. Add a fresh coat of paint, different window dressings and replacement of furnishings, and WHA LAH! You have a new room.

Need some paint? If you can be flexible about color, check the mis-mixed table at your local home improvement, hardware, or paint stores. You can find high quality paints for a fraction of the original retail cost when colors don’t turn out exactly as they should have. Sometimes you can find a slight variation of just the color you’ve already picked that will work just as well with your selected color scheme and save you lots of money.

I buy these mis-mixed paints (usually for $2-3 per gallon or less) throughout the year and store them appropriately for later use. This way I go shopping in my own paint department first to see if I can accommodate the decorating plan I have chosen. Planning ahead and grabbing these types of decorating supplies when they’re a bargain is a great way to maximize your savings.

Collecting fabrics for future use is also another great idea. Even unwanted clothing can be used to create small window dressings, pillow covers, and accessories. Many people give away scraps of fabrics or sell them at yard sales. Be sure to check clearance and end piece items at sewing and fabric shops. It’s really so simple to make a curtain or a pillow. Usually only requires sewing simple seams.

For more complicated tasks, if you can’t figure it out for yourself, you’re sure to find a how to book at any library or search on-line for free information.

I’ve found some excellent ideas for decorating on a budget, do-it-yourself projects, and some great decorating theme ideas from HGTV (Home and Garden Television). Even if you don’t get this wonderful T.V. channel in your home, you can go on-line at HGTV.com to benefit from some wonderful ideas and projects by professionals. There’s a lot for do-it-yourselfers here! You can get some great ideas for areas of your home where you just don’t know what to do with it.

Before you make your plans, check out several books at the library on home decorating. You will find no shortage of books on this subject. Glance through them and grab ideas to incorporate into your own decorating task. If you have a specific challenge to overcome, likelihood is someone else has already encountered it, conquered it, and written a book or web page about it. Use their knowledge! It will save you time and frustration of figuring it out.

My last words, of course, DO YOUR RESEARCH! Know your options.
Remember……..Informed Consumer=More Savings.

Happy decorating.

The Ultimate, “Must-Have” Home-Based Business for YOU

Filed under: Plugs — admin at 9:35 am on Saturday, May 31, 2008

The Ultimate, “Must-Have” Home-Based Business for YOU a
Underemployed, Unemployed, or Industrial Age Individual

Allow me to educate you on the issue of job security and
paint you a picture of what the aftermath can be if you
remain comfortable at your regular job. Job security is an
old-fashioned term that claims the longer an employee
worked for a particular company, the more precious that
person became. The employee was once valuable to the
company because they graduated from college, got a degree,
and/or had determination for hard labor.

In the past, it
was all right to become comfortable with your position. In
today’s society, being comfortable is the wrong thing to do
and actually, it’s a trap. This trap is the reason why
people with college degrees are without jobs and the good
workers are always the first ones released from a
professional setting. I am a Housekeeper for the Home at
Hearthstone, a nursing home in Cincinnati, Ohio. I work
from 7 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. for $8.40 per hour. The wages that
I make alone, tells you that I am working at a dead-end job
and receiving paychecks that don’t reflect a thorough
performance. I am an underemployed 19 year old-male who
attends college and makes good grades. Graduating from
college might raise my income level slightly, but it will
not secure me a job.

I am among millions of individuals who
like their jobs and work very hard at their occupations. I
am also among many Americans who believe that in order to
maintain my job; I must show up to work everyday on time,
listen to my supervisor and do a complete and thorough job.
These three things combined will not keep you your job. If
you continue to hold that belief, you’ll find yourself in
debt, have bad credit, and lose your house and other
financial obscurities. Losing what you have worked hard for
all your life is not a great feeling! What I am about to
tell you is very important and will save you time or
otherwise, reality will slap you in the face! Job Security
has departed from this world permanently.

Knowing that job
security is dead, what can YOU do to create a substantial
income? YOU need to do two things:

First, decide that you
want to work for yourself. Second, take the initiative to
start your own business. Either you can work for someone
else or you can work for yourself.

The second choice is
better than the first one. At 16, I thought that I can do
whatever I want on the job as long is my work is done. In
other words, I like to do things my way. I continue to feel
like that today in the workforce. When working for a
corporate employer, you must follow job policy at all
times. Conflict will arise when your rules don’t match
policy rules and you’re in jeopardy of losing your quicker
than you expected. If you hold similar beliefs such as
mine, then a home-based business if for YOU, which leads to
the biggest hurdle of the two steps, taking the initiative.

If you don’t take the initiative to start your own
business, then you’re making a foolish decision. Millions
of people are without jobs or working for awful wages. This
is due to a bad economy. The government will continue to
show their lack of sympathy by taking many taxes out of the
checks of lower and middle class citizens, while the rich
continue to get tax breaks. (There is a solution to that
problem if you click on the link in the resource box and
click on the Taxwayz link inside my website.) On August 25,
2004, I joined the Moneywayz program because my goal is to
make more money with a home-based business within a few
months than I make with my regular job in an entire year.
Within minutes of reading the brochure, I decided to put my
skepticism to the side and take a chance because if you do
not take chances, your income will become stagnant and you
will still be a subordinate to your supervisor. Can you
afford to live without money?

If you plan to start a
home-based business, but don’t have an idea on exactly what
you want to do, then the following may be the most
important. Would you like to become a part of a business
that provides you with power-packed tools to become a
business success on the Internet? Would you like to join a
business who believes, “The Greatest Music Is Money”? Would
you like to end financial depression? If this is correct,
then read on further to the resource box. Educate yourself
and develop your skills so you can be a demand for
financial success!

Paul Wilson II, a second-year college student, business
owner will take you by the hand and paint YOU a picture of
the exact results achieved with the Moneywayz program!

profitable businesses, starting today:

Is There an Affiliate “Free Lunch” Program?

Filed under: Commercial Stuff — admin at 1:57 am on Saturday, May 31, 2008

“Everything worthwhile has a cost… Whenever you think you are getting something for nothing, look againsomeone, somewhere, somehow is paying for it. Behind every free lunch there is a hidden cost to be accounted for.” Edwin G. Dolan

If you, or any of your business prospects, believe that time is money, then yes, the “There Ain’t No Such Thing As A Free Lunch” principle DOES apply to your internet business. What you can’t invest in money, you will have to invest in time. You will have to be able to put the axe to the grind for more hours per day or week, and you will have to wait for more weeks and months before your ship comes in. Those are the facts.

If you are able to think outside the box (and few internet entrepreneurs CAN’T!) then the principle can be stretched a little. Are you balking at spending a few pennies a day to boost your sales? Do some research comparing what your marketing program offers and what the same services cost on the open market. Compare what information your program offers and what you can learn elsewhere. For example:

* find some online business forums and search these topics: free advertising, phone follow-up techniques, sample follow-up letters, sample phone scripts.

* investigate your and other affiliate marketing programs for all the above plus services and tools such as: prospect notification, contact manager, online forum, billing and revenue collection, gateway website, company resource center, free sales and marketing tools, affiliate training courses, successful team support, commission or compensation schedule. In other words, look at EVERYTHING that the program will give you for free.

* research what you would have to pay for any or all of the above tools, hints, and services.

How does your affiliate program measure up? What do you get for free and therefore, what do you save? How much can you afford to invest based on these savings?

If you absolutely HAVE NO MONEY to invest, that’s one thing. If you have a knee-jerk reaction to investing in something that “says it’s free”, think again. What other business in the WORLD besides one on the internet can you begin for NOTHING? How many pennies a day can you AFFORD to invest in your business, maybe not now but as soon as possible?

If you have nothing, you can start and run a business. You will have to pay for it, however, with time. Free ads need to be worked every day. Free ads drop out of sight as new ads follow. You need to study your product till you know it inside and out, so all prospective affiliates can be led, encouraged, taught how they too can succeed. Since the name of the game is visibility amongst the billions of offers on the internet, you can’t afford to waste a single hard-won prospect.

Without any money to invest in advertising, this will be a long slow process. You will have to determine how YOU can best achieve sales and attract affiliates, because each person’s skills, style and dislikes are different.

You need to be internet savvy because all the information you require to succeed is out there, you just have to know how to find it. Study, seek your own answers, and know where and how to ask questions. You will win the game with patience and persistence.

Trapped in a Box: The History of Carton Revealed

Filed under: Biz — admin at 7:42 pm on Friday, May 30, 2008

We may not be aware of it but the simplest of materials we use for covering our food has been around for over centuries. Take a peek inside your pantry and try to see if you can find a milk carton, a carton full of eggs or even a carton of your favorite breakfast cereal.

Indeed, this centuries old packaging material is the carton.

Carton is often made out of a composite or of materials made out of two or more components. Cartons can be made out of a mixture of paper, pulp, wood or leaves. Its durability and stiffness makes it ideal for packaging heavy materials.

The carton has existed even before food manufacturers have used it for carrying eggs, milk, cereals, baking powder and other types of food. Although there have been a lot of materials discovered and used for wrapping and encasing, the carton still remains one of the most often used for packaging.

The carton first appeared in the 15th century in China and served different purposes. However, the first commercial carton was not used up until the 1817 when it was first produced in England.

The durable and sturdy carton that we know of today, on the other hand, would not have even existed if English hat makers in 1856 did not think of using it to line the bases of the hats they made. In fact, before this, carton was just a flimsy, thin type of paper that was not even considered to use for packaging.

The corrugated carton is the type of carton that has pleats attached to sheets of carton. These pleats of carton serve as support for carton sheets as it makes it more rigid and suitable for carrying weighty materials.

When the first corrugated cardboard was patented in 1856, it was mainly used in England for the bases of tall hats that were of fashion to English gentlemen.

It was only in December 20, 1871 when Albert Jones of New York, New York filed the patent for the corrugated carton. However, the corrugated carton Albert Jones patented back then only had a single-sided sheet of carton with the pleats attached to it.

The corrugated carton, from which the modern corrugated carton would be based from, was not produced up until 1874. During this time, Oliver Long, took Jones’ design and incorporated another sheet to make it more stiff and suitable for packaging heavier materials.

Now bear in mind that these cartons were just sheets and were not yet the carton boxes that we know of today.

In 1890, an American named Robert Gait “accidentally” invented the corrugated carton box. Robert Gait was a printer and paper bag maker. While printing an order of seed bags, the metal ruler used to crease the bags swung and cut the bags instead.

Through this, Gait discovered that creasing and cutting the bags would make it easier for manufacturers to make pre-constructed cartons.

Instead of using the seed bags that he was printing on, he creased and cut corrugated cartons instead. So when the 20th century rolled in, wooden crates were replaced by cardboard boxes made out of corrugated carton.

Today’s corrugated cartons are more intricately designed than those of the cartons used in earlier centuries. At present, the outer sheets are made to be puncture resistant. The pleats are also made up of a stronger wood-based type of paper to make the cartons sturdier and compression resistant.

Who would have thought that a piece of carton used to hold your day’s breakfast can have so much history?

Street Racing Can Be a Thrilling or Deadly Experience

Filed under: Wheely Feelies — admin at 9:43 am on Friday, May 30, 2008

Street racing is an extreme adrenaline rush, but dangerous and illegal. If you are interested in racing, there are many closed tracks that accept a fee for use. Racing on the street can get you killed, put in jail, or even worse, kill an innocent by-stander. Imagine the guilt that would be hanging over your head after such an accident.

Many youths still participate in street car racing. It is a thrilling ride, full of adventure that involves the most enthusiastic drivers who have a passion for driving cars. Street car racing now takes place in almost every part of the world.

In Street Car Racing the cars run at very high speeds and some of the faster street racing cars can go up to 60mph in just 4 seconds. So, one can imagine the pace at which these car races take place. Some of the faster street racing cars have a speed of up to 180mph. Many cars have neon underbody lighting systems that look amazing when the cars are running at high speeds. Normally these races take place at nighttime to keep the sport low profile. Generally most street racing cars have a Nitrous Oxide system that can double or even triple the horse power of the car. The latest street racing cars are customized with onboard entertainment systems which come with hi-fi audio, video, gaming consoles, and up to 5 monitors.

Any person can participate in illegal street car racing, but the danger and risks are not worth it. Racing on a closed track can be just as thrilling. Street racing appeals to people because the only requirements are that the person own a car. Many people prefer to watch motor sports rather than experience them first person since it involves a lot less risk than driving at such high speeds. Generally people with a lot of money and time to spare take part in such a sport as this. It takes a lot of money to customize a car for racing.

Generally young people are more attracted towards this sport than older ones. People customize their cars and even upgrade for maximum boost with suspension, tires, turbo and nitrous. But the drivers of illegal races need to be careful of the cops since driving at such high speeds on the streets is very illegal and as mentioned, is extremely dangerous. If the cops catch you they will likely seize your vehicle and put you in jail. Some youngsters feel it to be a thrill when actual cops are chasing them, but the thrill goes away fast when the cops catch them; or a telephone pole does. Speeding can cause a loss of someone’s life and is not to be taken lightly. If one takes conscious efforts to drive within the speed limits on the streets and save racing for closed courses, then the experience can be an absolute thrill.

Lawsuit Funding

Filed under: Lawyers' Net — admin at 7:34 pm on Wednesday, May 28, 2008

In the past six or seven years a new fast growing financial product for personal injury plaintiffs has emerged. Known by many names such as lawsuit funding, legal funding, litigation funding, pre-settlement funding, lawsuit advance, case funding and many other variations, this product offers financial help to plaintiffs waiting for a settlement, where there was none available before. Despite the high cost, the demand is strong for this hybrid product and the market has shown accelerating growth over the past couple of years.

Lawsuit Funding grew out of a hole in the financial system created by demand from the millions of people financially stressed because of injury by some sort of accidental tort and the lack of availability from traditional financial sources. Banks and other traditional financial institutions will not lend to someone whose primary collateral is an interest in their own lawsuit. Because they do not posses the skills to analyze the merits of personal injury lawsuits (or any other type of lawsuit for that matter) they will not lend regardless of the merits of the case.

A new breed of venture capitalists has filled the gap by providing these much needed funds in a unique manner. To avoid the usury limits, which would render the product economically infeasible, the typical lawsuit funding transaction is done in the form of an investment rather than a loan. This means that the funding company only gets paid if the lawsuit or claim is successfully resolved. If you lose your case you own them nothing! Generally speaking, this non-recourse element renders the transaction an investment (not a loan) under the law[1].

The nature of lawsuit funding makes the product high cost. Because of the non-recourse nature of the product, losses are high compared to other types of consumer products and the processing costs are also high because of the small average transaction size - generally less than $5,000. Rates vary a tremendously from one funding company to another. While rate have dropped in the past couple of years, when all charges are included, they still average between 4% and 5% per month. However, it is not uncommon to find lawsuit funding companies still charging 15% a month. Caveat Emptor!

While there are many success stores there are just as many horror stories to be told about lawsuit funding transactions. Typically, the horror stories all come from the same companies -those charging very high compounded rates. With a little bit of shopping around, it is possible to avoid these get rich quick artists and find a reputable company that will provide ample funds at simple interest rates. The cost will still be high due to the nature of the product; after all, if you lose your case the funding company’s investment is wiped out.

Before making any commitments, plaintiffs would be well advised to show the proposed terms to their attorneys. Any reputable lawsuit funding company will be more than happy to provide your attorney with any information needed to make an informed decision.

[1] This is a complicated topic but, generally speaking, if repayment of any part of the principal or interest is contingent on an event that is “more than a mere colorable hazard”, the transaction is not considered a loan and not subject to usury laws.

How To Deal With Procrastination

Filed under: Self Improvement Hub — admin at 10:09 am on Wednesday, May 28, 2008

Procrastination - why is it that some of us seem to struggle with getting things accomplished while others appear to make light work of their to do lists?

I have a confession to make … I also have times (like most people) where I struggle with working on certain tasks that I know need to get done. While I do make a concerted effort to keep such moments to a minimum, there are still times when the procrastination monster is known to rear its ugly head.

However, I should say that I don’t consider the fact that at times procrastination finds its way into my life to be that big of a deal.

Why not you ask?

Because I understand that by simply being aware that I’m putting off doing something I can make the decision to replace what I am doing (procrastinating) with an action that will lead to my getting what I want to get done — hence removing procrastination.

It comes down to a simple choice. Either I can choose to continue doing what I’m doing — putting things off, or I can choose to take an active step that will get the positive results I desire.

So what I’m saying is that while we may not ever get to a point where we totally remove the desire to procrastinate, we can choose to take corrective measures to get ourselves on track.

You’ve got to remember that it is a choice that we make. Simply being aware isn’t enough we also have to actually do the identified step that we know will put us on the path to the desired result…

If it’s getting up earlier then you’ll have to set that alarm clock or do whatever it takes to get up and get going. Action … even the tiniest of steps leads to less resistance.

To illustrate my point I’d like to share an example with you…

Just before I decided to start writing what you’re reading now I was doing something entirely different. I was doing some reading when the thought popped in to my head that I should write a column on procrastination. The point to consider is this… I had several very real choices to make in that instance. Whatever choice I decided on would give me very different results.

On one hand I could have (and almost did) made the choice to continue with my reading and forgo writing. Secondly, I could have chosen to make a note of the thought I had and simply told myself that I’d begin writing when I felt like it, or after I finished reading. Finally, and fortunately because I understand how if I’m not careful procrastination can spiral out of control I decided to immediately stop my reading and begin writing this article.

So you see, I still had the initial feeling of procrastination — I still felt the feeling of wanting to put something off for later, but instead I opted to work on what I felt I should do.

Interestingly the further along I get on this article the less resistance to doing it I’m experiencing — and so it is with procrastination. We best overcome it when we take active steps towards accomplishing the task at hand.

Be it exercising, working on school work, a business project, or just about anything one can imagine. Do the thing you are resisting doing as quickly as humanly possible and you’ll drastically reduce the times where feelings of procrastination rob you of achievement in your given endeavors.
