Birthday Cards - Right Selection Is Important

Filed under: Lifestyle Hub — admin at 2:06 pm on Friday, April 18, 2008

All of us are becoming immune to the joy of birthdays. Unless it is our birthday, we show no interest in others to a great extent. Most of us have a list of friends and family members and on their birthday, we search the Internet, pick up an ecard and send it. Our duty is over. If by mistake, we miss the birthday, we will send a belated birthday wishes card. How do we expect to develop and maintain close relations with this kind of approach? Birthday cards can cement any relationship beyond imagination. Please use this occasion to do that. Every birthday comes only once a year. Don’t be sloppy on that day. Be alert and you will get great friends for life. Let us find out more about the magic of birthday cards.

Take the example of your birthday. You open your mailbox and find many ecards or cards sent to you. You begin clicking one after another. One card attract s you very much. After that all other cards for your birthday are forgotten except that one birthday card. Will you not remember the sender with great affection? Will you not love that person for his/her care in selecting a very good ecard and sending it to you? Will you not remember this card till your next birthday and look for the ecard sent by the same person first? That is the difference we make with small details and care.

Small things matter a lot. For us there is only our birthday that is important. For others it is their birthday. On that day, they feel joy. You have to add to that joy with your actions. Put little more effort in selecting the right birthday card and use it to enhance your bond. A small card can make a big difference. You will win a friend for your lifetime. Please pay attention to what others want, and you will get what you want from them.

BMI: Between Meal Intrigue Hits the Highway

Filed under: Medical Center — admin at 10:19 am on Friday, April 18, 2008

If you’ve been pursuing a lighter, healthier version of yourself, it’s likely that you’ve heard of BMI, as in “Body Mass Index.” BMI is a guide by which we can measure where we “are” right now and gauge our improvement over time. Well we’re going to explore a different BMI… “Between Meal Intrigue”. Doesn’t that sound snackilicious?

This article was inspired by a suggestion from Marie Libby from somewhere in the great state of New Jersey. Marie shared her secret weapon in her own battle of the bulge.

Marie, like many of us, is always on the go. When we’re out and about, we are vulnerable. Surrounded by temptation and apart from our regular routine, an active person could find his or herself in the Wendy’s drive thru line without even remembering how we got there!

Most of us know that starvation is a poor diet choice. Just as when we don’t drink enough water and our body hoards H2O, our body hoards fat when we don’t eat. Ironically, it is
“eating” that fires up our metabolic furnace first thing in the morning.

So, we’ve established that skipping meals is not a smart idea. Given that, what do we do when we are away from home and unable to keep to our strict eating habits?

Marie provided a few suggestions and I must say that I completely concur. Here’s what she had to say:

“Whenever I’m on the go and I know I won’t be able to stop and eat a healthy meal, I prepare a cooler with the following items and pack it away in my car:

- an apple

- a baggie filled with a cup of Kashi (Good Friends) cereal with dietary fiber

- blueberries

- strawberries

- cantaloupe

- celery

- carrots

- and, of course, a couple bottles of water…

The Kashi makes a nice snack, I eat it dry right out of the bag. This helps me to avoid the fast-food drive thru or the junk food counter at the mini-mart.”

Marie may not have used those EXACT words, but they were pretty darn close.

Keeping to Marie’s plan will help you in two very important ways. First, and most obviously, by avoiding high fat, high calorie meals, you avoid gaining weight due to poor meal selection.

Secondly, by snacking on carefully chosen foods now, you will tend to eat less food and choose the right food at the next meal.

Notice the fact that Marie finished with the most important ingredient in her road warrior plot… bringing along water. When you are away from home or work, it is most difficult to drink plenty of water. Bringing along bottles of the life-giving liquid will help your body to continue to metabolize fat and keep you from gaining unnecessary water weight.

Being one who is often on the go doesn’t mean that you have to take several steps backward in your steady march toward your final goal. With just a little planning and a bit of will power, you can hit the road without missing a beat!

How Does eBay Auction Work for a Seller?

Filed under: My Auctions — admin at 7:35 pm on Thursday, April 17, 2008

Stated simply, like any other auction site eBay functions in the same manner. The only difference between eBay and other similar auction sites lies in size. No other site comes even closer to eBay in terms of number of items on sale at any given point of time.

It is very easy to understand the basic functioning of eBay. This functioning is similar for seller and buyer. Both the parties have to register themselves on eBay. Registration process is easy to understand and follow.

Once the seller has registered himself on eBay, he can think of putting an item on sale. This item could be new or old. This has to be specified at the time of putting the item on sale or listing the item. There are charges in the range of 25 cents to $5 for listing an item for sale.

Then you have to define the time period of bid - in other words, how long this item will be on sale on eBay. In addition to this, the seller has to decide the minimum amount for the bid i.e., the amount below which the seller will not accept the bid for selling the listed item. People interested in buying the listed product start bidding for the item. After the expiry of the time frame, the person (buyer) with maximum bid gets the item for the amount he has placed the bid for. The seller has to make arrangements for delivering the item (as decided at the time of listing the item) after receiving the payment from the maximum bidder.

Boating can be a very relaxing pastime

Filed under: Sports Tips — admin at 5:46 pm on Thursday, April 17, 2008

Boating can be a very relaxing pastime, floating along on a river or lake without a care. For most people, the boating itself is the whole point of the hobby: once you’re in the boat, you’re set.

Many people bring their boat to wherever they are going to go boating on a trailer attached to the back of their car, provided the boat is small enough - larger boats have to be kept in marinas, which can be expensive. Even today, plenty of people still build their own boats out of nothing more than wood, nails and ingenuity.

There are many different kinds of boats, from the very small to the very large. The smallest boats are those designed to be rowed effectively by one person, followed by family-sized small boats. Most people who are into boating tend to have been boating with their family, especially their father, and take their own family along because they have such fond memories.

Once you get above quite small boats, you start to get into powerboats (also known as speedboats and motorboats). They start off as only just too large to row, but can go as large as 50 feet long with cabins and large engines - in other words, you can get powerboats about as big as a car and about as big as a lorry.

While boating is fun, however, it is also a hobby where you need to pay a lot of attention to safety. Too many boaters die each year, mainly by falling overboard and drowning. It is important that you use common sense as well as making sure to comply with the relevant safety laws, especially by always taking lifejackets with you.

Of course, boating isn’t entirely limited to just cruising around. You can also set up water-skis on the back of your boat and go water-skiing, or even enter boat races, if you think you’re fast enough. You can also fish, both in freshwater and in saltwater, with freshwater fishing one of the most popular things to do with a boat.

4d scans - baby ultrasound.co.uk

Filed under: Health Parlor, Kiddie Stuff, Medical Center — admin at 2:31 pm on Thursday, April 17, 2008

The method know as three dimensional ultrasound is used during early pregnancy, it provides 3d pictures of the unborn baby. Most of the time these pictures are collated and combined and animated to produce a 4d ultrasound scan.

Three dimensional scanning works in the same way to the usual ultrasound methods except that the ultrasound pulses can be sent from many directions. The ultrasound waves are reflected back and captured and provide information to construct a 3 d image in much the same way as 3d pictures. 3 dimesional ultasound scanning was started by stephen smith and olaf von ramm at duke university.

It is important to understand that sonologists all over the world have always conjured 3d pictures of the body in their minds while doing 2d scans. However, until recently it was impossible to do this type of reconstruction on on info using ultrasound. With the introduction of ultrasound baby scans for the first time allowed us a view into the thinking of a sonologist and hence letting us view the images on the ultrasound machine.

The 3d/4d ultrasound image should utilize ultrasound energy following the same limits as conventional 2d ultrasound to create the 3d images. While there is no information of harm due to 3d ultrasound, its use in none essential situations should be undertaken with an understanding of the risks involved.

Planning Permission Tips UK - Permitted Development Allowances - Not the Golden Goose You Imagine

Filed under: Home Improvement Portal — admin at 2:03 pm on Thursday, April 17, 2008

There is a perception amongst most folk that every house is allowed a certain percentage of extension development without the need for formal Planning Permission. People seem to think that it applies to them even when they purchase an already extended property.

The Permitted development allowances as contained within the GPDO 1995, Statutory instrument 1995 No. 418 is a minefield of criteria & restrictions with affecting paragraphs & clarifications all over the document which has lead to a vast array of interpretations from homeowners, agents & Planning Authorities, some of which has been challenged in the courts. It is so cumbersome that there is even a government discussion document out at the moment seeking to address these issues that should result in an update or complete new legislation document in the coming months so watch this space.

This News Letter is far too short to go into every issue of what you can & cannot build within the curtilage of a dwelling house without formal Planning Permission (unless you have purchased my MAXIMUM BUILD PLANNING GUIDE OF COURSE???) but it may be advantageous to subscribers of this news letter to highlight some of the more common ‘trip up’ clauses that will prevent you from erecting your extension, outbuilding or alterations to your property as follows:-

1. Site zoning - if your property is within a conservation area or Area of outstanding natural Beauty or a National park then your PD limits may be fully withdrawn or limited from normal.

2. New dwellings - If your property was part of an estate, small infill development, one off build etc. within the last 15 years then there is a good chance that the Planners cleverly by stealth removed the PD rights to the property as part of the original Planning Approval as a Planning Condition. This is to maintain control over your property in most aspects for the future. Even older housing estates may have their PD rights lifted so do check first. This is the most common of all reasons why most ordinary householder hopes are dashed at the outset or illegal buildings are erected in the first place.

3. Previously extended properties - If you are purchasing a property that has already been extended then it is likely that no further PD rights exist applicable to extending a dwelling. 70 cubic metres is not a great deal of extension volume.

4. Ancillary outbuildings - These have minimum distance requirements from the house & to a highway. They also have strict ridge & Flat roof heights & are again affected by the sites zoning as in item 1 above. The use must also be ancillary and contain no bed space. So no granny annexes, office suites or huge buildings that cannot be classified as an ‘ancillary use’.

5. Extension heights - If it is over 4M high within 2M of a boundary then sorry but no go here as well.

6. Fence heights - Normally 1M max. close to a highway or 2M in most other cases.

7. Roof Dormers - if they exceed the existing ridge line, front towards a highway (that means paths as well) or are greater than 40/50 cubic metres (terrace/other) or within a conservation area then no go for building them without Planning.

8. Porches - that do not cover a doorway or exceed 3 square metres or exceed 3M high or are within 2 Metres to a highway do not comply with PD - you will need Planning Permission.

There are more areas of ‘trip ups’ but the ones listed above are the main common catches that most people fall into from time to time.

The solution is to always check the constraining details with your local Planning Dept. with what you want to do & get it ‘informally’ agreed in writing. This aspect is actually harder to obtain than you think as most Councils now want you to apply for a Certificate of Lawfulness (C of E) which is a legally binding document that confirms (or denies) that you do not require formal Planning Approval for your scheme.

You see the council have an unfair ‘get out of jail free’ card where their ‘opinion letters’ outside of a C of E are not legally binding? - Isn’t that great! Can you imagine what the world would become if we were are all granted that sort of ‘cop out’ licence in our correspondence & professional opinions?

Cynical I may be but this sort of evasion of duty & responsibility really guiles me. The down side is when applying for a C of E is that you need proper drawings showing all aspects of the design, siting & location plan etc. which is not normally achievable in a DIY format by the householder, you need to pay a fee (currently £55.00) & surprise, surprise - it takes about 2 months!!!! to decide. - ere…….excuse me….but doesn’t that sound just like a Planning application - YES - to be informed that you don’t need planning in the first place! - what a great ploy & clever thinking by the boys at Whitehall. I think the phrase is….’you couldn’t possibly make this up!

If you have trouble deciding what you want to build is PD or not & the council remain unhelpful outside of a C of E then do seek a professional opinion from a Building Design Agent used to this sort of residential development.

Our ‘Maximum Build Planning Guide’ explains further the tactics involved when extending a property under Permitted Development & what areas can be exploited for developing land or a site for residential use & how to give yourself the best chance of being granted an approval.

Atomic Clock Times

Filed under: Information Technology — admin at 12:46 am on Thursday, April 17, 2008

Time measured by rotation of Earth is not uniform when compared with time kept by atomic clocks. It was not always so, and atomic clocks underwent changes before giving us accurate time. The first atomic clock, built at the U.S. National Bureau of Standards in 1949, was a maser with attached equipment. It was followed by advanced atomic clocks that provide high accuracy by allowing for microwave interrogation of atoms isolated from each other and from any exterior disturbance.

Atomic clocks are used as time standards for counting the passing seconds. In 1884, the Greenwich Mean Time or GMT was established as first global time scale and UTC, its atomic equivalent, was established as the official time for the world in January, 1972. The International Bureau of Weights and Measures, or BIPM, is the official keeper of atomic time for the world. In the U.S., the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s NIST-F1 is an example of accuracy with neither gaining nor loosing a second. Atomic clock time is important for global positioning of satellites, various missiles, rocket programs, aviation programs, navy, power distribution, mobile and landline telephone systems, the Internet, GPS, and digital television. The movement of the earth causes random fluctuations in length of days and years, and the atomic clock has been able to manage the anomalies of time differences. A recent example is the leap second added due to slowing of the earth’s rotation on December 31, 2005.

The unique measurement capability and success of atomic clocks is such that time and frequency have far higher accuracy than any other physical quantity. NASA uses atomic clocks to provide reliable and consistent navigation for interplanetary space travel, where fractional disparities in clock tick rates can dramatically affect the navigation of spacecraft. Similarly, computers are coordinated with atomic clock time and sitting anywhere in the U.S., we can have access to precise minutes and seconds.

Atomic Clocks provides detailed information on Atomic Clocks, Atomic Clock Times, Atomic Alarm Clocks, Atomic Wall Clocks and more. Atomic Clocks is affiliated with Printable Calendars.

Top Seven Essential “Hot-Selling Points” To Implement Before Writing Chapter One

Filed under: Publishing Tips + More — admin at 4:18 pm on Wednesday, April 16, 2008

Every part of your book can be a sales tool. When you include the below tips, you will have a roadmap to follow to keep your writing organized and compelling, and you’ll sell more books than you ever dreamed of!

1. Write for your one preferred audience. Not everyone wants your book. Find out what audience wants/needs your book? What problems does your book solve for them? Create an audience profile and keep your audience’s picture in front of you as you write. Ask yourself, is my topic narrow enough? The Chicken Soup For The Teenager, For The Prisoner, and other specific groups sold far more copies than the original Chicken
Soup.

2. Write a sizzling book title and front cover. You have 4-10 seconds to hook your potential buyer. The cover itself sells more books than any other part. Bookstore buyers buy mainly by cover designs. Your title must compel your audience to buy. If you want an agent or publisher your title and subtitle are vital.

3. Write a thirty-second “tell and sell.” You only have a few seconds to impress the media, the agent, the bookseller, and the individual buyer. Include your title, a few benefits, and the audience. Include a few sound bites that grab attention. You may also want to compare your book to a successful one. “Passion at Any Age” is the “Artist’s Way” for seniors.

4. Write your back cover before you write your book. This is the second most important sales tool your book has to offer. Here you put compelling ad copy, benefits, testimonials, and a small blurb about you, the author. If your potential buyer likes it, they will buy on the spot. If they want more information, they will look inside at the introduction and table of contents.

If you write an electronic book (eBook) you can apply this information to your Web site sales letter.

5. Write your book introduction. Include the problem your audience has, why you wrote the book, and its purpose. In a few paragraphs include more specific benefits, and how you will present it (format). Keep it under a page.

6. Create a table of contents. Each chapter should have a name, preferably a catchy one. If your reader can’t understand the chapter title, then annotate it. Add some benefits or a sub title. In Passion at Any Age, the author put the word “passion” in each title. Which attracts you more? “Open Your Mind?” or “Attracting Passion?”

7. Reach out to opinion molders. After an initial contact of asking for feedback, resend them the same chapter and the table of contents of your book. Ask for a testimonial then. These influential contacts’ testimonials will make your back cover an important sales tool.

Designing every part of your book to be a sales tool and a beacon to writing a focused, compelling, understandable, and enjoyable book is a must, before you write a single word.

A Wisdom to Defeat

Filed under: Occultism — admin at 3:23 pm on Wednesday, April 16, 2008

Many time in life we come up with problems, from where it looks the end of every thing. Situations look going out of control. Nothing looks coming from anywhere to rescue us. In this situation lies the use of wisdom to defeat. Here I am sharing the story of a donkey. The donkey fell in to the well. The owner of donkey tried everything to rescue the donkey, but every thing fails. On the failure to rescue the donkey, the owner decided to burry him alive. Because the donkey was old and well was also dry. For burring the donkey, he sot the help of the villagers. They all started throwing stones and mud into the well. By realizing the situation, donkey started shaking and jumping vigorously. By this action mud and stone started settling on the ground and raising the level for donkey. Soon with his efforts donkey comes near to the wall of well and jumped out happily. The owner and the villagers amazed to see it. World is also likes that. It through dirt on us, in the time of difficulties. Tries to burry us under it. Telling us that we are useless. This is up to us that how we use this dirt. We can use it constructively and uplifts our life.

This story clearly gives us the wisdom to defeat. In difficult situation we require to use this wisdom and defeat the world. When we are in difficulties, then nobody will come to our help, but every body will try to even produce more difficulties for us. They will through all kind of dirt on us, so that they can burry us. Here nobody can help us. Only way to freedom is using this dirt in constructive way, because there is always lies a unique way to come out of it. Only thing is that we should be able to see it and use it till the end. Many situations like this come in our life, where we are rendered useless. This is actual time of telling the world but we are. This is real test and we have to come as winner from it. The difference between a loser and successful person is very small. Successful person is who fought till the end and defeat the enemies. There is no wisdom in loosing the battle. We are born to win; this is the cause of our birth. Therefore by realizing the wisdom to defeat we can emerge as victorious, with a surprise to the world.
